Shibui Knits Linen is a little different from some yarns you may have seen because of its chainette construction. This means that the yarn is not made with traditional spinning techniques, but instead made out of a very fine knitted chain. Because of this difference, the yarn is easier on your hands when knitting than a traditionally spun linen, and also has this extra-light, airy quality. This also means they can make a very fine gauge yarn, in this case a fingering weight.
So what do you make with a linen yarn like this one???
I just got finished with the Mix No. 15 tank below from the Shibui Knits pattern line. They often “Mix” two yarns to get different effects in the knitting. For this one, it called for two strands of linen, and I decided to get crazy and use two different colors, Poppy & Suit. 😉
They have some great patterns, including the Mix No. 13 sweater, that will be a giveaway kit at our Shibui Mix Party happening August 2nd. (Have you signed up?!?!? Only a couple of spots left!) This sweater would transition great from those cool late summer nights, right into layering for the fall!
I’d also love to see a Color Affection shawl made up in this yarn. Beautiful!
So, what are you waiting for? Come on over to Stitch Space to get a summer project on your needles! Stay tuned for our next “Yarns of Summer” feature on Wednesday.
