The Berroco Karma has a chainette construction similar to that of the Shibui Linen. In this case, it is in a chunky weight tape instead of a super-lightweight yarn. Typically, when you come across a chunky weight cotton, you find that is it heavy, and inflexible. That is not the case with the unique construction of the Karma yarn. You might be surprised to pick up a skein and see that it is very light and lofty for a chunky weight cotton.
It also comes in some gorgeous colors. They have a subtle light/dark quality to them that almost looks like a watercolor wash. I think this contributes to the breeziness of this yarn and really makes it suited for summer!
(Aren’t those colors pretty?!?!)
So, what to make with this fast-to-knit yarn? Maybe a summer tank like the freebie pattern Pulina available in the shop! (If you were here opening weekend, it may have been in your goodie bag!) I made up a shop sample and I was delighted to see how much the yarn draped and did not add a lot of bulk even though this pattern has no waist shaping, and is in a thicker yarn. It’s perfect for a beginner, too, with lots of garter stitch!
Also, I found that the piece stretched after blocking and having it on the mannequin a bit. It almost lengthens and narrows, making it even more flattering. I think the body called to knit to 11 inches up to the armholes, and the tank measures about 14 inches now. In addition, you knit on size 15 needles, so this one goes fast! Knit it up in a weekend for a swim coverup!
If this pattern doesn’t suit you, we have a booklet in store with 6 other patterns designed in this yarn. Check those out here! A cowl or wrap will knit up super-fast in this yarn!
Join me back here on Friday to talk about another linen blend, perfect for those summer projects!
